Freelance Travel and Lifestyle Editor
As a freelance travel and lifestyle editor my work covers the many, multifaceted iterations of the role; from strategic to day-to-day.
This includes end-to-end production of books and magazines; month-by-month publishing schedules for online platforms; commissioning unique and thought-provoking articles; working with journalists and copywriters to refine features according to publication tone; and final responsibility for proofreading before sharing with the world.
I’ve done it poolside in Sri Lanka, overlooking the Bosphorus in Istanbul, on a train zipping from London to Brighton, 35,000 feet high flying over Saudi Arabia, and on the steps of the Acropolis in Athens. There’s really nowhere that the job can’t be done from. But, for avoidance of doubt, I’m also very happy settled into an office space, strong cappuccino in hand.
Past and present roles as one/other/all forms of an editor’s wide job description include with Citizen Femme, Lonely Planet, BSkyB and YUNG magazine.
Content and Project Manager
As a content and project manager (strategy, editorial, visual), I’ve overseen everything from commercial campaigns for tourist boards to guidebook production, magazine photoshoot coordination, and communication strategies for London corporates.
Yes, it’s a wide range but all have one thing in common: being good at getting things done. Alongside a healthy dose of creativity, procedure, leadership and motivation.
Highlights include producing photoshoots for Condé Nast spanning India, Oman, the UAE, the UK, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Australia (often simultaneously), and leading the commercial content production for Dubai Tourism campaigns.
During the latter, I oversaw 311 pieces of content production, across 10 publications, in just nine weeks. Campaign articles, videos, photoshoots and microsites reached 10.5 million people. That’s nearly two million people a week.
Of course, faster is not always better and sometimes content management projects mean honing in and hashing out the smaller details for weeks and months at a time. I’m a sucker for detail and I love doing this too.
I’m well-versed in managing any level of editorial or commercial content across print, websites and social media, and always strike the balance between quality and quantity.
